Job Description
Constellation Search Group is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer working directly for a global manufacturer of engineered Sealing Connection Tools for production testing, fluid transfer and other processing applications. This rapidly growing company has manufacturing facilities in Roseville, Minnesota and Shenzhen, China. In this role you will provide mature engineering level capabilities and execute on product development for new and custom products. Works from business case and new product request information to develop products. An interest or experience in managing others is desired.
Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design Engineering:Commercialization of products:
- Develop new products from a supplied Business Case and New Product Request Information. (i.e., Create Concepts, develop into product and guide through to full production and support).
- Create, research, design and develop new specialty connector component products or assemblies at an expertise Engineering level. Calculating FEA, DOE, leading DFMEA, etc.
- Process designs including detailing prints, procurement of prototypes, and all documentation.
- Create and maintain solid models and work within Inventor CAD with Vault Management environment.
- Test parameter development and execution for reliability engineering with follow-up analysis.
- Design products for custom applications (as required). Coordinate the procurement, manufacturing and testing of these products.
- Create layouts of product enhancements to support value-engineering activities. Perform cost analysis to support decision making.
- Benchmark competitive design/process, materials and function. Research and recommend processes, and material selections.
- Lead / assist in brainstorming / idea generation and help guide designs within the Engineering department.
- Document and record all aspects of product development.
Continuing Engineering:
- Be responsible for BOM accuracy, releasing drawings, and keeping schedule on track.
- Prepare documentation and conduct design reviews and release meetings as required.
- Assess training needs, develop training material, and provide training and coaching to manufacturing staff as needed.
- Communicate design status on a regular basis, including but not limited to status-based steps development process.
- Provide support and training for new and existing products.
Infrastructure:
- Lead/Participate in and be a resource to cross-functional teams to improve product concepts, product design and quality.
- Assist in guidance of lower-level design engineers.
- Actively seek out product improvements and upgrades to enhance the product and/or reduce costs.
- Travel as required to support product, find new opportunities, evaluate markets
Experience:
- Actively seek out improvement opportunities to streamline processes and reduce costs.
- Lead small x-functional teams.
- RGA / Product issues evaluation, analysis, disposition for Corrective Action / Preventative Action.
- Serve as resource to other team members and designers.
- Independently manage projects through completion.
- Keep current with industry design trends and governing requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Requires BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 6 years relevant experience in a mechanical design engineering position.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Must understand machining principles and be able to provide required information to machinists.
- Strong engineering skills and a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures for the completion of difficult technical problems and projects.
- Ability to adapt products based off standard designs.
- Ability to develop new products (i.e., detail, prototype, test, release, and provide support to production).
- Able to handle multiple tasks and conflicting priorities. Able to manage activities requiring immediate attention and activities that have long term impact.
- Understands the capabilities and limitations of fluid power products including all pproducts.
- Highly motivated with the ability to act independently (low level of supervision).
- Must be solid model CAD proficient with 2000hrs in Inventor or SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of team building skills to lead small cross functional teams with the ability to work productively with internal manufacturing and external supplier organizations.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be current with industry design trends
