Job Description
Constellation Search Group is seeking a detail-oriented Sales Tax Analyst to join our finance team. The Sales Tax Analyst will be responsible for ensuring compliance with state, local, and federal sales tax regulations, as well as supporting the business with sales tax reporting, filings, and audits. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of sales tax laws and regulations throughout the US, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments to maintain accurate tax records.
Key Responsibilities:

Sales Tax Compliance:
- Prepare and review accurate sales tax returns for multiple jurisdictions (state - including CA, local, and federal).
- Ensure timely filing of sales tax returns in compliance with applicable laws.
- Review sales transactions for proper taxability and exemption application.
- Maintain knowledge of current sales tax laws and changes that impact the company.

Tax Reporting & Analysis:
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax reports.
- Analyze sales transactions and prepare necessary adjustments to sales tax accounts.
- Conduct tax research to resolve complex tax issues and provide recommendations.

Audit Support:
- Assist in the preparation for sales tax audits, including gathering documentation, responding to auditor queries, and ensuring timely resolution of audit findings.
- Work with external auditors to resolve any discrepancies related to sales tax filings.

System Maintenance & Process Improvement:
- Help maintain and update sales tax systems to ensure proper calculation and reporting of sales tax.
- Identify and recommend process improvements for sales tax compliance and reporting.

Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with the finance, accounting, and legal teams to ensure seamless integration of tax data into financial reporting.
- Provide support to internal stakeholders with questions regarding sales tax issues, including exemption certificates and taxability of products or services.
Qualifications:

Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred
- Additional certifications in tax (e.g., CPA, CMI) are a plus.

Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience in sales tax, tax compliance, or accounting (preferably in a corporate environment).
- Familiarity with sales tax software and ERP systems (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, SAP, Oracle) is a plus.

Skills:
- Strong knowledge of U.S. sales tax laws and regulations.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in handling financial data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with multi-jurisdictional sales tax filings and audits.
- Knowledge of taxability rules for various types of products and services.
- Familiarity with international sales tax and VAT is a plus.
